Before joining, put the provider’s order summary next to the offer you chose. Match the data, calls, texts, price and minimum term. Save a copy of the terms you agree to.
Write down every payment
- The first payment and any SIM, delivery or setup charge.
- The normal recurring price and how often it is taken.
- When an introductory discount ends.
- Any scheduled price increases and the dates they take effect.
- Extra charges for exceeding limits or using services outside the allowance.
A 30-day plan is not the same billing cycle as a calendar month: renewal dates can move through the year. An annual package may require the whole amount upfront. Keep these differences visible when comparing.
Read the minimum term and exit rules
Find out how long you must keep paying, how to cancel, and what happens after the minimum term. Check the provider’s cooling-off terms separately from its ordinary cancellation rules. If there is a separate phone repayment agreement, read that too.
Ofcom’s contract checklist explains the information providers must give you, including the contract summary and price-change information. Use the documents for your actual deal rather than assuming every plan works the same way.
Check limits that affect you
Look at coverage, roaming, hotspot use, any speed limit and what “unlimited” allows. Premium-rate calls and international calls may be treated differently from ordinary UK calls. Ask about a spending cap if you want to limit charges outside your plan, and check what the cap excludes.
Compare like with like
Two plans can both have 50 GB but different payment periods or joining conditions. Use SIM comparison to line up the details. For a phone plus SIM deal, add all scheduled payments over the same length of time in our total-cost calculator.
